QUALITY ASSURANCE ACCREDITATION

EXTERNAL EVALUATION OF ACADEMIC UNITS

External evaluation is the last stage of the quality assurance process for academic units. It is comprised of the analytical review and examination of the internal evaluation outcomes carried out by the external evaluation committee. The committee members are drawn from the Register of Independent Experts set up, maintained and updated by HQA. The external evaluation process aims at determining the completeness, transparency and objectivity of the internal evaluation conducted by the Internal Evaluation Group (IEG) of the academic unit, and formulating an objective decision. In particular, external evaluation aims at:

  • underscoring best practices and areas for improvement,
  • highlighting and providing documented support for the academic units’ rational requests to the university or the state,
  • collecting and promoting best practices nationwide
Following an in situ visit to the academic unit under evaluation, and after meetings with members of the administration, academic and administrative staff, students and social partners, the committee of experts prepares the external evaluation report. The report summarises the external evaluation outcomes, including an examination and in-depth analysis of the following:
  • the achievements of the academic unit,
  • the areas for improvement or corrective actions,
  • the effectiveness of accomplished actions in terms of quality assurance, and, in general, mission and objectives accomplishment
